Finalists:- Jacqueline
Train & Anne Gilbert (Largs) vs Gillian Pollock & Alyson
Hutton (Skelmorlie)
On a very cold
and windy day, the ALCGA Final delivered a closely contested and
exciting match between Largs and Skelmorlie. Jacqueline
Train and Anne Gilbert of Largs made a strong start, racing into an
early lead by winning three of the opening four holes. The fifth hole
was halved, but Gillian Pollock and Alyson Hutton responded
impressively, rallying to win the 6th, 7th, and 9th holes. Their
comeback ensured the match was all square at the turn.
The back nine
began with two consecutive halved holes, maintaining the tight
contest. Jacqueline and Anne regained momentum by winning the 12th
hole, while the 13th and 14th were halved. A further win on the 15th
gave the Largs pair a two-hole lead with three to play.
However, the
Skelmorlie duo showed great determination, fighting back to win the
16th and 17th holes, bringing the match all square heading to the
18th.
On the final
hole, both teams were well-positioned after three shots into a strong
wind. Unfortunately for Gillian and Alyson, their approach found the
greenside bunker, while Jacqueline and Anne were safely on the green.
Under pressure, the bunker proved a difficult challenge,
