Ayrshire Girls' Runner-Up in Kennedy Salver

Our Ayrshire Girls' Team came so close to taking the trophy yesterday at Clober losing to Lanarkshire by only half a point.   In the morning foursomes Samantha McKay and Cristina McCracken put a point on the board for us, D & A had one point, while Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire shared the lead with two points each.

In the top singles, Rachel Foster giving 9 strokes found herself 3 down but managed to fight back on the inward 9 to finish with a halved match.   Sarah Ramsay had a faltering start to be 4 down early on but she too rallied and won by 2 & 1.   Number three for Ayrshire was 11 year old Freya Russell who was playing a very experienced Lanarkshire player 6 years her senior.   Her opponent's tee shot to 6 feet at the 15th, a blind par 3, was just too good to allow the match to continue any further.   Samantha won again in the afternoon, while Cristina 1 down with two to play hit beautifully down the last two holes and putted to perfection to win both holes and gain another point for the team.   Lanarkshire finished on 6 points, Ayrshire 5.5, D & A 3.5 and Renfrewshire 3.

The course was in super condition and looked beautiful, the weather was tremendous, but the thing that shone out was the friendliness and happy faces of all the girls across the four counties and the spirit in which the games were played.Congratulations to Lanarkshire, worthy winners of the Kennedy Salver despite being a player short this year.   To my Ayrshire team.........you were magnificent!     .........Kath and I had a fabulous day 😊

British Amature Championship

Our Connie was back at it again this week. Following her success at the Scottish Amature in Aberdeen, Connie shot a first round score of 75 (+4) and a second round of 71 (par) to qualify T22 at the British Amature Championship at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club, South Wales.
Unfortunately in the first round of match play Connie's opponent (E Osborn from Sweden) birdied 17 and 18 to win the match by 1 hole.

Well done champ, we are all very proud!

Day two of the West Division Inter-county Matches saw wins for Ayrshire (6.5-2.5 against D&A) and Renfrewshire (5-4 against Lanarkshire).
The Ayrshire Ladies went 3-0 up in the morning with strong foursomes play and secured 3.5 points in the afternoon singles against some tough opposition on the greens.

Day three will see our team playing against the home tean Lanarkshire with the foursomes starting at 9.30am.

Good luck team!!

Inter County Matches - Day 1 results

After day 1 at Hamilton Golf Club. Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire are in the lead.

Renfrewshire turned the tables this year and defeated our Ayrshire team. All the matches were closely fought with 4 out of the 9 going to the 18th.

Today our Ayrshire girls will be up against defending champions D&A, with the foursomes kicking off at 9.30am.

Connie Jaffrey - Scottish Amature Champion 2017!

Connie used a brilliant short game and excellent putting to surge five up at the turn, having gone out in four under par with birdies at the first, fourth, sixth and ninth.
Clara Young did not win a hole until the 11th but it triggered off a two-under-par run which saw her also win the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th - five in a row, a magnificent fightback which saw her square the match on the 15th. However the miserable weather saw to Clara's rally petered out. She bogeyed the 16th to go one down again and then was plugged in the thick and wet rough with her second shot at the 18th, moving the ball only a few feet, and eventually conceded a 10ft birdie putt to go down by two holes.
Well done Connie! We are all very proud of you and good luck next week!

Connie in Scottish Ladies Finals Tomorrow

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), and Clara Young (North Berwick), will contest Saturday's 18-hole final of the 103rd Scottish women's amateur championship over Royal Aberdeen's Balgownie links (8.30am tee off).

Connie was Ayrshire Champion and Scottish U18 girls champion in 2013 and beaten finalist in the Scottish Ladies Amature Championship at Prestwick by Gabrielle MacDonald in the same year, will start slight favourite to win what should be an intriguing contest.

Connie ,who KO'd the North's last hope, Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) by 2 and 1 in the morning quarter-finals, was five under par in winning her semi-final by 3 and 2 against 17-year-old professional's daughter, Jillian Farrell.

Connie had six birdies in all, including three of the last four holes played to end the match on the 15th green but Farrell did not go down without a fight and was all square at the turn, both players having gone out in two-under-par 37.

Clara Young, Scottish champion at Monifieth in 2015, has carried on the impressive form - 16 under par for 54 holes - which saw her win the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews last week.

Scottish Womens Amateur Championship at Royal Aberdeen

Emma Hale (Troon Ladies) was joint leader, from an impressive field, after the first round qualifier played on Tuesday when the rain didn't stop all day! Emma shot a one over par score of 77 and 17 year old Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) also had a great round scoring 79.

The second qualifying round was cancelled yesterday due to winds gusting over 40 mph making putting impossible on the exposed greens.

The 32 qualifiers were therefore decided on scores returned on Tuesday only.  Unfortunately Louise wasn't able to play in the matchplay due to her school prom which left Emma and Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) playing in the knockout stages.

Emma lost this morning to Kimberley Beveridge while Connie had 2 good wins today taking her through to the last 8 tomorrow.

All the best from Ayrshire Connie, we are with you in spirit!

Both Emma and Louise will be playing for Ayrshire in the Inter County matches at Hamilton Golf Club next week.

Loudoun Postponed!

Due to the dreadful weather this morning the Loudoun competition for today has been cancelled.  Proposed new date is Wednesday 21 June, please email the secretary if you are able to play then.
